BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Beilstein Paces Unbeaten Tustin at Santa Ana

David Beilstein scored 19 points to lead Tustin High School to a 68-56 victory over Santa Ana in the championship game of the Santa Ana basketball tournament.

Beilstein, a guard, scored 12 points in the first quarter as the Tillers (4-0) took a 27-8 lead. Tustin continued the attack in the second quarter and led, 47-20, at the half.

Jason Moore scored 14 and Brian Reider had 12 for Tustin.

In the Cerritos Gahr tournament:

Woodbridge 58, Kennedy 52--Bryant McLemore, Romalis Taylor and Mike Manthei each scored 11 points to lead Woodbridge in the fifth-place semifinal-round game. Kennedy led, 13-8, after one quarter, but rallied and led, 29-24, at the half.

In the Valley Christian tournament:

Santa Margarita 66, Whittier Christian 62----Down by as many as eight in the fourth quarter, Dan Bathey scored 12 of his game-high 22 for Santa Margarita, which rallied. Santa Margarita (2-0) was 13 of 15 from the free-throw line.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Saddleback 51, Villa Park 48--Forward Chris Kirby scored a game-high 24 points for host Villa Park (1-3) Friday, but his last-second three-point shot attempt to tie the score missed, after Villa Park had rallied from 10 points down in the second half.

Anaheim 53, Santiago 51--Trailing by six points with 2:48 left in the game, visiting Anaheim High School (3-1) forced two turnovers and scored on consecutive baskets by Robert Jones, Danny Castro and Say Iemesisanith to tie the score. Santiago (2-2) then fouled Castro, who hit both free throws to give Anaheim the lead. He hit six of seven free throws in the final two minutes.

Capistrano Valley Christian 97, Sacramento Country Day School 35--Forward Jason Rodarmel scored 33 points and had 13 rebounds to pace Capistrano Valley Christian (2-1).
