BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Duran Scores 16 to Pace Orange Past La Habra

Carlos Duran scored 16 points and had seven assists to lead Orange High School to a 66-53 victory over La Habra in a nonleague basketball game Friday at Orange.

Phu Huynh scored 20 points and Jason Lee had 14 rebounds and seven points for Orange (4-2).

Orange outscored La Habra, 14-4, in the first quarter and led, 33-16, at the half. James Clegg scored 14 for La Habra (2-4).

In another nonleague boys’ basketball game:

Buena Park 60, Los Amigos 37--Buena Park held host Los Amigos (0-2) to 13 points in the second half. Ray Levier had 22 points for Buena Park and Chris Blythe led Los Amigos with 10.

In the Arroyo Grande Tournament:

Righetti 58, Santa Margarita 56 (OT)--Santa Margarita led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter only to lose in a consolation-round semifinal. Righetti’s Adam Haarberg scored 18 points in the second half and made a three-point basket at the end of regulation to force overtime. Jeff Layne had 18 and Mike Carpenter 17 for Santa Margarita (3-3).

In the San Dieguito tournament in Encinitas:

Dana Hills 63, Rancho Buena Vista 41--Jason Spizouco had 22 points to lead Dana Hills (4-2) to an opening-round victory. Spizouco and Keith Barnett each had seven rebounds and Chris Swenson had five blocked shots for Dana Hills.

In the Santa Barbara Tournament:

Channel Islands 71, Westminster 56--Westminster High School (2-5) was down by two points, 40-38, at halftime, but Channel Islands went into a spread offense in the second half to pull away in the fifth-place semifinals of the Santa Barbara Tournament at Santa Barbara High School.

In a nonleague game:

Capistrano Valley Christian 89, Liberty Christian 38--Jason Rodarmel had 22 points and 10 rebounds to to lead the visiting Eagles (5-1).
