GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Jalewalia Scores 51, La Quinta Rolls

Amy Jalewalia had 51 points, one shy of her best total, to lead La Quinta High School to a 73-37 victory over Santa Ana Valley Thursday in a semifinal game of the La Quinta girls’ basketball tournament.

Jalewalia had scored 44 points Wednesday night. La Quinta (5-1) also had help from Heather Brannan, who had 10 points and eight rebounds.

In other La Quinta tournament games:

Esperanza 55, Savanna 43--Michele Fujioka had 16 points to lead Esperanza (8-2). Jennifer Hardy had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Carrie Frederick had 17 points for Savanna.

Los Amigos 43, Magnolia 35--May Ly had 18 points and Carrie Elsaesser had 14 to lead Los Amigos in a consolation semifinal. Los Amigos is 4-4.

Santiago 47, Orange 37--Guards Becky Elcock and Pricilla Demuth combined for 30 points to lead Santiago (3-4). Elcock had 16 and Demuth 14. Center Nicole Thompson had 16 for Orange.

In the Cypress tournament:

Ocean View 56, Marina 46--Jennifer Sullivan had 16 points, Sabiola Nunez had 13 and Tracy Wolfe had 12 to lead Ocean View (9-0) in a championship semifinal. It was Marina’s first loss of the season. Melisa Sortino had 18 points for Marina (8-1), which led, 36-34, in the third quarter but could not stop Ocean View’s rally.

Valencia 50, Los Alamitos 48--Valencia (3-4) outscored Los Alamitos, 18-7, in the fourth quarter in a consolation semifinal. Sig Lo had 12 points, Catheryn Sweet had 11 points and Hollie Keeton had 10 points for Valencia. Allison Arredondo scored 22 points for Los Alamitos. Mission Viejo 57, Cerritos 50--Jennifer Rohrig had 31 points, 25 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead Mission Viejo (7-3) in the consolation fifth-place semifinal. Sophomore guard Kendra Okura had eight points, eight rebounds, three steals and five assists off the bench to spark Mission Viejo. Carrie Burke had 16 points, nine assists and six steals for Mission Viejo. Cerritos is 8-3.

In the Chino tournament:

Fountain Valley 47, Ganesha 38--Jennifer Barbaro had 18 points for Fountain Valley (6-2) in a championship quarterfinal. Julie Workman had 10 points for Fountain Valley.
