1 Killed in Athens Drive-By Shooting
A Los Angeles man was shot to death and his teen-age friend injured Thursday night when occupants of a passing car opened fire on four people standing in front of an apartment house in the unincorporated Athens area, authorities said.
Roderick Clark, 22, of Los Angeles was taken to Martin Luther King Jr.-Drew Medical Center with wounds to the abdomen and leg and was pronounced dead. Nijel Bordenaue, 17, of Los Angeles was listed in good condition at Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center with bullet wounds in the hand. Two others in the group escaped uninjured, authorities said.
Sgt. Don Nielsen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lennox Station said the drive-by shooting at 9:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of West 97th Street appeared to be gang-related. He said Clark was believed to be a gang member. Deputies have no suspects.
