THE SIDELINES : Coaches in Poll Oppose Playoff

NEW YORK —
Division I-A football coaches generally are opposed to a postseason playoff, a survey by the American Football Coaches Assn. shows.
The survey of NCAA head football coaches shows 72% against a playoff after the bowl games. Sixty per cent opposed a playoff plan that incorporated the bowl games.
Sixty-seven I-A coaches responded to the survey.
The survey also showed that 80% of Division I-A coaches endorse freshmen competing in varsity sports.
