COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Fullerton Women Lose to Long Beach, 92-62

Cal State Long Beach defeated Cal State Fullerton, 92-62, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday night in Titan Gym.

It was the Titans’ third consecutive loss and 25th consecutive time Long Beach has beaten Fullerton.

Despite playing without leading scorer Genia Miller for much of the first half because of foul trouble, the Titans (6-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference) only trailed, 39-36, at the half. The Titans took a 42-41 lead early in the second half when Jill Matyuch scored on a jump shot.

But Long Beach (9-3, 2-1), ranked No. 9 in the nation, took the lead for good with 16 minutes 41 seconds remaining when Dana Wilkerson scored on a layup.

Miller, who had been averaging 25 points a game, scored 13 points before fouling out with 9:02 remaining. Matyuch led the Titans with 17 points.

In a Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball game:

Southern California College 78, Point Loma Nazarene 74--Gail Brown had 28 points and eight rebounds to led SCC (8-4, 1-0) at home.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball games:

Westmont 113, Christ College Irvine 72--Chad Kammerer had 26 points and made eight of 12 three-point shots for visiting Westmont (12-1, 1-0). Bert Gay and Kevin Kurz had 17 for Christ College Irvine (8-11, 0-1).

Southern California College 91, Point Loma Nazarene 79--Rick Witmer had 27 points and eight rebounds and Jeff Bickmore had 25 points and 10 rebounds for host SCC (10-5, 1-0).

In a nonconference men’s basketball game:

Colorado Springs 88, Pacific Christian 75--Brian Keiser scored 17 points and Mike Beson 12 for Pacific Christian (9-8) at Cal State Fullerton.
