ANAHEIM : City to Buy Potential Stadium Parking Lot

Share

The City Council on Tuesday voted 4 to 1 to buy property at the corner of Katella Avenue and Douglass Road that could be used as parking for the city’s proposed sports arena.

The city voted to pay $2.3 million to KTG Partners of Costa Mesa for the land. A building on the land houses the Old Mill Cabinet Co. and Environmental Seal & Security.

The city is planning to build a 20,000-seat sports arena on Douglass Road. If there are no legal challenges to the $85-million project before the end of this month, ground will be broken in February.

Councilman Irv Pickler cast the dissenting vote. His was also the lone vote against the environmental impact report on the stadium; he said then that the city should not be rushing to build the arena.
