GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Fischer Breaks Three-Point Mark, but Edison Loses, 67-55

Debbie Fischer of Edison High School broke the Southern Section single-season record for three-pointers, but Ocean View defeated the Chargers, 67-55, in a Sunset League game Tuesday night at Edison.

Fischer, who made three three-point baskets and scored 16 points, has 69 three-pointers this season, breaking the record of 66 set last season by Linda Watson of Lynwood.

Tracy Wolfe had 23 points and 13 rebounds and Jenny Sullivan had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Ocean View (19-1 overall, 4-0 in league), the third-ranked team in Orange County. Fabiola Nunez added 14 points.

Laura Vinch had 11 points and Melanie Iwamasa had 10 for Edison (11-6, 1-3), the eighth-ranked team in the county.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 65, St. Paul 28--Zsuzsi Burkhalter had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Melissa McDonald had 11 points and Joan Maurer had 10 for visiting Mater Dei (6-10, 3-1), which led 33-9 at the half. Melinda Chavez had 15 points for St. Paul (3-10, 0-4).

St. Joseph 46, Rosary 36--Diane Wiskus scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds for visiting Rosary (10-4, 2-2).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 46, Los Alamitos 26--Senior guard Jennifer Harney scored 17 to lead visiting first-place Esperanza (13-3, 4-0). Senior forward Andera Warmus scored 10 for Esperanza. Esperanza led, 16-4, at the first and, 32-11, at the half. Alison Arredondo scored 19 for Los Alamitos (0-4 in league play).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 58, Sonora 47--Sommer McLane scored 18 and Jenny Comstock 14 to lead host Fullerton (12-4, 4-0). Kris Kiel scored 14 for Sonora. Fullerton, which led at the half, 35-28, plays host to La Habra Thursday at 7 p.m. La Habra and Fullerton are both 4-0 in league play.

In the Olympic League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 43, Orange Lutheran 38--Junior guard Elainie Kollias had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals to lead Capistrano Valley Christian (6-7, 4-2). Becky Pearson scored 17 for Orange Lutheran.

Capistrano Valley Christian led, 26-16, at the half and, 31-20, at the end of three quarters.

Santa Margarita 47, Whitney 29--Sophomore guard Kristen Mulligan scored 17 to lead host Santa Margarita (9-6, 4-2). Jenna Ricker scored 11 for Santa Margarita.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 78, Savanna 39--Aimee McDaniel had 23 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and four steals, and Katie Bauer had 14 points and 10 rebounds as visiting Brea-Olinda (18-0, 4-0 won its 40th consecutive game.

Valencia 58, Magnolia 24--Hollie Keeton had 18 points and Sig Lo had 15 to lead visiting Valencia (8-8, 3-0). Valencia led, 24-16, at the half.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 60, Laguna Hills 47--Junior forward Rachel Ward scored 25 points to lead host Costa Mesa (8-8, 2-1). Freshman guard Olivia DiCamilli scored 17 for Costa Mesa and senior guard Thuy Nguyen scored 15.

Costa Mesa led, 23-12, at the end of the first quarter and Laguna Hills never got closer than eight points the rest of the way. Ward and DiCamilli each scored 10 in the first quarter.

Marlo Smith scored 16 and Andrea Nelson scored 10 for Laguna Hills (1-2 in league).

Orange 64, Laguna Beach 22--Senior guard Alin Perez had 19 points and eight steals to lead visiting Orange (10-5, 2-1). Nicole Champion scored 12, Brooke Bryant and Laurie Salinger each had 10 for Orange, which led, 34-11, at the half. Laguna Beach is 0-3 in league play.

Woodbridge 69, Trabuco Hills 38--Junior center Deanna Harry had 29 points, making 13 of 18 shots, and 16 rebounds to lead Woodbridge (12-4, 3-0) at Trabuco Hills. Senior guard Leslie Rathbun had 13 assists, 10 points and 11 steals. Sophomore forward Belinda Taub added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors. Shelley Calhoun had 20 points for Trabuco Hills.

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 75, San Clemente 58--Senior guard Karie Yoshioka had 23 points, 10 assists and seven steals as El Toro, the No. 2-ranked team in Orange County, outscored No. 9 San Clemente, 25-8, in the fourth quarter. Senior center Sara Bone added 24 points and eight rebounds for the Chargers.

The Chargers (15-4, 4-0) trailed, 24-14, in the first quarter and 38-36 at the half, but took an eight-point lead in the third quarter before San Clemente (13-6, 2-2) tied it, 50-50, at the end of the third quarter. San Clemente’s Wendy Moon had 27 points.

Mission Viejo 57, Irvine 14--Host Mission Viejo led, 38-2, at the half. Jennifer Rohrig had 13 points and Dina McKinney had 12 for the Diablos (12-7, 1-2).
