‘Fourth of July,’ ‘When Harry Met Sally’ Lead Nominees on Golden Globe Telecast

‘Tis the season for acceptance speeches, and this weekend will be no exception as the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. bestows its annual honors on the year’s top films and television shows.

The star-studded 47th annual Golden Globes airs live at 7 tonight on cable station TBS. “Born on the Fourth of July” and “When Harry Met Sally” lead the film competition with five nominations each, while “L.A. Law” captured eight nominations to lead in the TV categories. Audrey Hepburn will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award to commemorate a lifetime in film.

With a little less glitter, the 22-hour “United Cerebral Palsy Telethon” begins tonight at 8 on Channels 9 and 42. Originating from Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York, the 12th annual fund-raiser will be hosted by John Ritter with appearances by Henry Winkler, Ben Vereen, New Kids on the Block and many others.

Sunday, from 1 to 7 p.m. on Channel 28, acclaimed documentarian Frederick Wiseman’s latest film, “Near Death,” provides a six-hour, cinema verite examination of life and death among critical care patients at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital.
