Bradshaw’s 38 Not Enough; Gulls Lose at Akron

US International’s Kevin Bradshaw scored 38 points, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Gulls from losing to Akron University, 92-80, Monday night.

The road loss was USIU’s sixth of the season without a victory. The Gulls have now lost 95 of 98 on the road over the last eight years.

Bradshaw made 13 of 26 shots from the field, including three of seven from 3-point range, in scoring his 38 points for the Gulls, who fell to 8-12.

Akron, 11-5, broke away from a 47-47 tie with 17:15 remaining in the game to take control with 10 straight points for a 57-47 lead with 15:14 remaining. The Gulls battled back to within 69-64 with 8:21 remaining, but six straight points gave the Zips a 75-64 lead. U.S. International never threatened again.

Akron hit 36 of 66 shots from the field for 55%, and U.S. International made only 29 of 74 for 39%. U.S. International had a 44-40 rebounding edge.

Albert Jones scored 22 points and Mark Alberts added 20 to lead Akron.

Five Zip players scored in double figures. Anthony Buford had 17, Pete Freeman 16 and Kevin McCarthy 11.

Alberts went 6 of 10 from the 3-point range and brought his total to 67 for the season, breaking the school record of 66 set by Eric McLaughlin last year.

Paul Wilson had 17 points for U.S. International and Demetrius Laffitte had 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
