HIGH SCHOOL BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Sedlacek’s Plays Seal it for St. Augustine

Greg Sedlacek made a layup with five seconds remaining and then stole a pass, allowing Bryan Cantwell to score again and seal St. Augustine’s 79-76 victory over visiting Clairemont Tuesday in a City Harbor League game.

Cantwell led St. Augustine (13-7, 3-1) with 15 points and Sedlacek had 14.

Clairemont (4-11, 1-2) missed six of its final seven free throws in the fourth quarter.

In another City Harbor League game:

Coronado 69, Christian 63--Tony Clark scored 52 points, but it wasn’t enough for host Christian (8-8, 2-1). Coronado (12-8, 2-1) was led by Paul Carter (21 points) and Darrick Washila (20).

City Central League

Crawford 64, Hoover 48--Sophomore Barry Randle scored 26 points and Marc Carter had 14 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Crawford (14-5, 2-1). Roger Blake led Hoover (4-13, 0-3) with 11.

Lincoln 95, Madison 66--Guard Victor Dean led Lincoln (13-8, 4-0) with 18 points. Center Darryl McMillan had 11 rebounds. Lincoln’s Archie Robinson, a five-foot, 99-pound freshman, had 11 points, including three three-pointers.

San Diego 76, Marian Catholic 46--Clark James had 33 points for No. 8 San Diego (11-3, 3-1).

City Western League

Mission Bay 56, La Jolla 43--Center Gabel Anderson led Mission Bay (3-11, 1-2) with 17 points. Cameran Attwood added 16. Justin Chaitin led La Jolla (3-14, 0-3) with 12.

University City 54, Kearny 43--Anthony Hill led University City (16-1, 5-0) with 18 points. Scott Darnay and Tom Rawlins led Kearny with 15 points apiece.

City Eastern League

Patrick Henry 54, Serra 38--Ross Edwards scored 12 points and Butch Reese 11 for No. 5 Patrick Henry (16-3, 3-0). Desi Dixon led visiting Serra (6-8, 0-3) with 13.

Mira Mesa 57, Point Loma 54--Kal Chatham, J.J. Rowlette and Mark Ziegler had 16 points each for No. 6 Mira Mesa (13-6, 3-0). Ziegler also pulled down nine rebounds. For the Pointers, J.J. Stokes scored 14. Point Loma led by 13 at the half, and had five three-pointers.

Grossmont 3-A League

Monte Vista 71, Helix 57--Joe McNaull and Jeff Polinsky were too much for Helix (8-5, 1-1). McNaull had 14 points, 23 rebounds and 10 blocked shots and Polinsky had 34 points for host Monte Vista (11-6, 3-0). Brandon Sanders led Helix with 14 points, Henry Lundy had 12 and Gary Walton 11.

Grossmont 2-A League

Valhalla 76, Santana 58--Mike Nalu scored 28 points, including four three-point shots, to lead visiting Valhalla (14-8, 3-0). Jason Lynch added 14 points and Bryan Voshell had 10 rebounds for Valhalla. Chad Barry was the high-scorer for Santana (3-16, 1-1) with 17.

Coastal League

Army-Navy 62, Julian 35--Dan Cho led Army-Navy (3-3, 7-9) with 18 points and 12 rebounds and teammate Phil Parks added 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Nonleague

USDHS 67, Morse 63--Guard Peter Ellis scored a game-high 22 points and had nine rebounds to lead USDHS, which was outscored by Morse 18-8 in the fourth quarter. David Dunn led Morse (9-9, 1-2). USDHS is 9-5, 2-1.
