Doug Kay scored his 23rd goal of the season and goalkeeper Mark Antrobius recorded his 11th shutout Tuesday to lead Palos Verdes past Hawthorne, 1-0, in a first-place showdown in the Bay League soccer race. The Sea Kings are 7-0-1 in league play and 19-2-1 overall.

The Loyola Marymount basketball team has a six-game winning streak and averaged 137.5 points in two victories over the weekend. The Lions have taken over the national scoring lead, averaging 120.2 points a game.

Hawthorne’s basketball team, led by guard Waymon Powell and forward Reggie Bell, improved to 8-0 in the Bay League and 15-5 overall Tuesday with a 67-40 victory over Palos Verdes.

Gillian Boxx’s goal broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the South Torrance girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory Tuesday over Redondo. The Spartans, in first place in the Bay League with a 7-0 mark, have given up only two goals in league play.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s basketball team suffered its seventh loss in the last nine games Saturday to Cal State Los Angeles, 50-45, falling to 1-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. and 9-9 overall.

Hawthorne, traditionally among the top girls basketball teams in the South Bay, is feeling the effects of a rebuilding season. Palos Verdes handed the Cougars a 90-24 Bay League loss Tuesday.

So far, it’s been a long season for the Inglewood basketball team. The Sentinels had their losing streak extended to five games Tuesday in a 75-68 setback to Leuzinger. They fell to 1-7 in the Bay League and 4-14 overall.

Torrance’s soccer team proved no match for Santa Monica in a Bay League game Tuesday, losing 5-0. The Tartars’ league record dropped to 2-6.
