A Hollywood tour operator, Touring With Flair, is offering mature travelers several options on the 10 tours it conducts in the Western states, the Northeast and Canada.

For example, each itinerary is available at two prices, one including meals and the other without. The latter choice allows travelers to buy their own meals independently and yet still dine with the group. It also can mean a significant reduction in the tour price.

A second option offered is that if one of the coach tour itineraries appeals to you, but you don’t like coach travel, you can make the trip by rental car or in your own vehicle. Flair will provide the itinerary, maps and hotel vouchers at an appropriate lower rate.

The company’s 1990 program includes a 15-day “Mounties and Monuments” tour that includes Niagara Falls, Montreal, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, D.C., and is priced at $1,749 with 27 meals, or $1,342 without. The price does not include transportation to or from New York, the gateway city.

There is also an eight-day, four-state “Western Classics” tour from Los Angeles that includes Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon national parks, plus Las Vegas and Scottsdale, Ariz. It’s priced at $668 per person, double occupancy, with 13 meals, or $502 without. Or you can drive it by yourself for $245 per person, double.

There are three other coach tours out of Los Angeles, plus another that starts in San Francisco and ends in Los Angeles.

The 15-day “Great Western Loop” covers the California Coast, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, then Las Vegas and most of the “Western Classics” tour. It costs $1,559 per person, double, with a $383 reduction without meals.

All Flair tours will have weekly departures starting in April or May, depending on the region.

More than 80% of Flair’s tour members are age 50 and over, so the tours are planned accordingly. The company has a no-smoking, seat-rotation policy on its coaches, uses first-class hotels and includes all taxes, gratuities and service charges in its prices.
