Luginbill Says Booker Will Return to SDSU

San Diego State football Coach Al Luginbill returned to the recruiting trail this week, but was home long enough last week to welcome back a player familiar to the Aztecs.

Running back Tommy Booker, who quit the team for personal reasons last season, met with Luginbill Friday and confirmed that he will return.

“Everything worked out OK,” Luginbill said. “Tommy is back with the program. He seems to have left his external problems completely behind.”

Booker, a junior running back, was The Times’ back of the year and a first-team Parade All-American during his senior season at Vista. He rushed for 460 yards and three touchdowns in his first two seasons at SDSU.

Booker, who rushed for 460 yards and three touchdowns in his first two seasons at SDSU, has two years of eligibility left. He will immediately join the team’s off-season program. His arrival gives the Aztecs at least five starting running back candidates: Booker, Curtis Butts, Larry Maxey, redshirt freshman Kipp Jefferies and community college transfer T.C. Wright.
