COLLEGE BASKETBALL : DeLaveaga Scores 33 but CLU Loses by 1

Despite a game-high 33 points by Jeff deLaveaga, the Cal Lutheran men’s basketball team came up on the short end of an 82-81 decision to Southern California College in NAIA District 3 play Tuesday night at Cal Lutheran.

Southern California College (15-7, 7-4 in district play) was led by Mike Henjum with 25 points and Jeff Bickmore with 20. For Cal Lutheran (4-16, 2-3), Mike Demeter scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

WOMEN

Cal Lutheran 80, Southern California College 79--Freshman point guard Amy Chandler sank a 14-foot jump shot with one second remaining to lift Cal Lutheran to a NAIA District 3 win at home.

Brenda Lee led Cal Lutheran (13-6, 6-3) with 27 points and 18 rebounds while teammates Heidi Griffith and Dani Elton scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Kristin Bevis (19 points) and Gail Brown (17 points, 15 rebounds) led Southern California College (11-9 overall).

Occidental 65, The Master’s 56--Sharon Wada had 10 points and nine assists, Sharon Bruner had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Jenny Korinko had 18 points to lead Occidental (8-10) in a nonconference game at Occidental.
