SHORT TAKES : Dance Music Awards Postponed

Last week’s sweep of the American Music Awards by dance-oriented groups has encouraged promoters of the upcoming Dance Music Awards to dress up their own awards show.
Terrence Brown, executive director of the Dance Music Academy of Arts and Sciences, said the award show’s Feb. 12 taping has been postponed so the group can “devote additional time to getting great performers, presenters and participants, and giving the audience the most spectacular production we can.” Teen heart-throb Alyssa Milano and the group, New Kids on the Block, are still slated to host the show at Universal Amphitheatre, which was to feature performances by Was/Not Was, Technotronic and Donna Summer. The show has been tentatively rescheduled for the first week in April.
