IN THE GLARE: Huntington Beach city fathers (and mothers) have been eager to draw attention to their town as a tourist mecca (above), even giving $150,000 in seed money to a new visitors bureau. . . . But Mayor Thomas J. Mays’ appearance Thursday on NBC’s Today Show discussing the tanker spill probably wasn’t what they had in mind. . . . Still, said City Councilman John Erskine: “I really don’t think it will have any short- or long-term economic consequences simply because (the spill is) not of the magnitude of the Santa Barbara or Alaska spills.”
