A La Habra man was arrested Monday on suspicion of stabbing a 16-year-old youth in an argument over a stolen bicycle, police said.

Booked on a charge of attempted murder was Esteban Flores, 26.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the Friendly Hills Medical Center, where he was treated for a stab wound to the shoulder and released, police said.

Officer Steve McKean said the incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. as the victim sat in a parked car on the 300 block of Mountain View Avenue. A man walked up to the car and asked the youth about the man’s bicycle, which had recently been stolen, police said.

“When the victim said he didn’t know anything, the suspect pulled out a 9-inch kitchen knife and stabbed (the youth) once in his left shoulder,” McKean said.

The suspect then fled in a car.

About two hours later, La Habra police arrested Flores when they stopped his vehicle near the scene of the stabbing, McKean said.
