Harbor Beats College of the Desert, 88-87
A basket by Roneil Powell with 11 seconds left gave host Harbor College a wild 88-87 win Saturday over College of the Desert in the first round of the state community college playoffs. Harbor (23-12), seeded 14th, will visit No. 3-seeded Rancho Santiago, which had a bye, on Wednesday.
College of the Desert (21-12) led most of the second half before Harbor, paced by Eric Carpenter’s 25 points and Terry Nelson’s 21 points and 11 rebounds, closed the gap. A Desert shot to win with seven seconds left was disallowed because of a charging foul, Harbor spokesman Gary Wood said.
