Tony Clark scored 64 points Saturday night to break the San Diego Section single-game scoring record in Christian High’s 103-66 Division V quarterfinal playoff victory over La Jolla Country Day.

Clark’s 10th three-pointer of the game, with 2:20 remaining, gave him the record. He passed the previous mark of 61 set by Madison High’s Mitchell Lilly in 1976 against San Diego High.

“He was just burning tonight,” said Mike Zavereskey, Christian assistant coach. “Everything he put up was going in.”

Clark, who had 29 points at the half, made 25 field goals and four of five free throws. He also had 21 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Last year against Santana, Clark scored 55 points, the third highest total in section history. And this season, Clark, who is averaging 44.2 a game, scored 58 points twice.

Christian (14-11) will play Bishop’s Wednesday night in the semifinals.

Bishop’s 62, Vincent Memorial 39--Vincent Memorial led early, 11-8 after the first quarter and 21-20 at the half.

But Bishop’s (23-4) came out strong in the second half and scored 24 points in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Bishop’s made six three-pointers, including three from Brian Aalbers, in the second half.

“They had a little one-three-one zone that we weren’t executing very well on in the first half,” said Ren Marquette, Bishop’s coach. “We started off real cold, but in the second half we shot ball with more confidence.”

Aalbers finished with 17 points, and also had 12 rebounds. Bill Assaf scored 14 and had seven assists. Martin Jimenez had 13 points for Vincent Memorial.
