Lenny (1974)--(Channel 7 Saturday at 12:30 a.m.)

Bob Fosse’s dark-hued, terrific film biography of iconoclastic nightclub comedian Lenny Bruce, with a brilliant Dustin Hoffman in the title role and Valerie Perrine as his stripper wife.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973)--(Restored version--TMC Sunday at 11 p.m.)

One of the most deeply felt elegies to the passing of the Old West that were being made at the time, most surely in response to the moral confusion and increasing bitterness of the Vietnam era. Kris Kristofferson (as Billy) and James Coburn (as Garrett) star. Directed by Sam Peckinpah from Rudolph Wurlitzer’s script. A classic.

Stella Dallas (1937)--(KTTV Thursday at 8 p.m.)

Here’s an opportunity to see the late Barbara Stanwyck in one of her most celebrated roles, as a garish, self-sacrificing mother--and to compare her with Bette Midler, star of the latest version. Directed by King Vidor.
