Huntington Park police Sunday identified two suspects in the slaying of a pregnant woman and her fetus during a home robbery last week and said they have found evidence linking them to similar crimes in the area.

A team of investigators from several jurisdictions served three search warrants at undisclosed locations in the Los Angeles area, recovering evidence tying the pair to the series of crimes, Huntington Park Police Detective Tom Weselis said.

The suspects were identified by the detective as Glenford Brooks, 16, and Walter Steve Scott, 18, both of Los Angeles.

Brooks and Scott are suspected of forcing their way into a Huntington Park condominium on the evening of Feb. 26.

One intruder allegedly shot 24-year-old Sylvia Enriquez, killing her and her 8-month fetus. The other allegedly slashed Enriquez’s mother across the face with a knife when she tried to intervene.

The intruders demanded money from the six family members in the house and repeatedly threatened to kill or maim them, police said.

“I’ve been here 15 years and I can’t think of anything that comes close to this one,” Weselis said.

Brooks and Scott are also suspects in an incident involving robbery, rape and kidnaping in San Gabriel and three residential robberies in Long Beach, Weselis said.

A key break in the case came when fingerprints that Long Beach detectives recovered from one of the robberies were matched to Scott’s. Witnesses to the Huntington Park murder identified a photo of the suspect, Weselis said. The witnesses later identified a photo of Brooks, a known associate of Scott, the detective said.

Investigators serving the search warrants found several weapons, including a .22-caliber rifle taken in the San Gabriel robbery, and property that links the suspects to the other robberies, Weselis said.

The weapon believed to have been used in Enriquez’s murder was not found, he said.

Weselis said Brooks and Scott may be driving one of three vehicles: a gray, four-door 1988 Volvo 240 DL with California license 2 HBU 492; a light blue, two-door 1977 Buick Regal with a white top; or a red Toyota sedan. The Volvo was stolen in the San Gabriel robbery.

The two should be considered “armed and extremely dangerous,” Weselis said.
