COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Trujillo’s 3 Home Runs Help Canyons Prevail

Robert Trujillo hit three home runs, and John Beauchemin doubled in Steve Kovacic in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift College of the Canyons to an 11-10 Western State Conference win over Glendale on Saturday.

Art Chute and Steve Bojanac each had two home runs for Glendale (6-12, 2-3).

Bojanac’s second home run, in the eighth inning, tied the score, 10-10.

In other games:

Moorpark 12, Santa Barbara 4--Sophomore Mike Suarez hit three home runs to lift the Raiders to a WSC win over host Santa Barbara.

Suarez, a second baseman who played at Valley last season, drove in five runs. Teammate Don Smith hit a three-run home run for Moorpark (9-6, 4-1).

Cal Lutheran 1-7, Redlands 0-1--Shortstop Manny Alvarez had five hits, including a double and a triple, as the visiting Kingsmen completed a nonconference sweep.

Cal Lutheran’s Dean Martinez (1-0) limited the Bulldogs to three hits in the first game, and Tim Wimbish (2-0) struck out seven in the second game.

Pierce 3, Oxnard 2--Tony Jordan and Vince Simili each drove in a run in the eighth inning to give Pierce a come-from-behind win in a WSC game at Oxnard.

Kurt Lowry (4-3) pitched eight innings to pick up the win, and Chris Murphy mopped up for his first save. Jordan also scored a run for Pierce (8-9, 1-3).

John Swanson homered for Oxnard (2-2 in conference play).

Mission 5, East L.A. 4 (12 innings)--Catcher Harold Whiteside singled to left in the 12th to score Manny Orozco and lift the Free Spirit to victory in a 4 1/2-hour Southern California Athletic Conference marathon at Valley.

Orozco was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single by John Kukawski. Dain Turner, a sophomore center fielder, went four for five with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Master’s 8-8, La Verne 7-4--Craig Johnson hit a two-out double in the 10th inning of the first game to drive in Sheldon Sparks and clinch the first half of a nonconference sweep at The Master’s.

Shortstop Mark MacArthur hit a bases-loaded triple for the Mustangs (7-10) in the decisive five-run second inning of the second game.
