Toon, Thai of Van Nuys Top Girls’ All-City Section 4-A Team

Stacie Toon and Huong Thai, who led Van Nuys High to the City Section 4-A Division championship game, head a list of four area players who have been named to the All-City 4-A Division girls’ basketball team in a vote of coaches.

Joining them on the 13-member squad are Jacinda Sweet and Suzi Shimoyama of North Hollywood.

Toon, a 6-foot senior center, averaged 19 points and 15 rebounds for Van Nuys, which posted a 22-4 record and lost to Washington in the 4-A final, 65-49. Thai, the shortest player on the All-City team at 4-11, averaged only five points and three rebounds, but the sophomore point guard directed the Wolves’ attack, averaging 10 assists a game.

Sweet, a 5-9 junior guard, averaged 23.1 points and 12.1 rebounds. Shimoyama, her 5-8 sophomore backcourt mate, averaged 13.2 points and 5.5 assists.

The Men’s Senior Baseball League of Southern California has openings for players in a 30-and-over league based in Los Angeles County.

The league is open to players of varying levels of experience. Players will be matched with teams located near their homes.
