COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Post Two Shutouts

Two Cal State Fullerton pitchers recorded shutouts on Sunday as the Titans swept a Big West Conference softball doubleheader from San Jose State at Fullerton.

Ann Van Dortrecht pitched her conference-leading 12th shutout as Fullerton won, 1-0.

It was Shireen Campbell’s turn in the second game as the Titans won again, 1-0.

Van Dortrecht allowed four hits and had four strikeouts.

In the first game, Fullerton’s run came in the sixth inning when Carey Hess singled, stole second and scored on an error.

In the second game, Missy Coombs had a bases-loaded single in the seventh to drive in the winning run. Yvette Hernandez started the inning with a double. Charlotte Wiley was walked intentionally and Joy Tiner singled to load the bases, bringing Coombs to the plate.

Fullerton, ranked third in the nation, is 28-9 overall, 8-2 in conference. San Jose State is 21-13, 5-7.

In nonconference baseball:

Grand Canyon College 4, Chapman 3--Grand Canyon scored three runs in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead at Hart Park in Orange. Mike Giuseffi had three hits, two runs batted in and scored a run for Chapman (18-13). Tom Allison had a double and a triple and scored Chapman’s other two runs. Grand Canyon is 25-14.
