PREP ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Defeats Irvine in Volleyball

Ryan Benn had 29 kills to help Capistrano Valley High School defeat Irvine in a five-game South Coast League volleyball match Tuesday at Irvine.

Eric Olson added 65 assists and five blocks for Capistrano Valley (6-3, 2-1 in league), which won, 15-6, 15-5, 11-15, 14-16, 15-8.

In another South Coast Conference match:

El Toro 3, Mission Viejo 0--Jeff Mayland had 15 kills and Mike Shannon 10 for host El Toro in a 15-5, 17-15, 15-4 victory. El Toro is 6-2, 2-1.

In Olympic League volleyball:

Calvary Chapel 3, Santa Margarita 2--Steve Flores had 20 kills as host Calvary Chapel (8-2, 6-0) won 15-9, 4-15, 6-15, 15-11, 15-6.

In South Coast League golf:

Capistrano Valley 200, Irvine 204--Brian Thomas shot one-over par 37 for Capistrano Valley at Rancho San Joaquin.

In Sea View League golf:

Estancia 199, Tustin 235--Ken Calvert shot one-over 37 for Estancia (6-1, 4-0) at Tustin Ranch.

In Sunset League golf;

Huntington Beach 395, Edison 421 (18 holes)--Scott Gibson shot four-over 76 for the Oilers (8-1, 4-0) at SeaCliff.

Marina 372, Westminster 420 (18 holes)--Taka Yuki shot a three-under 67 for Marina at Meadowlark.

In Sea View League tennis:

Corona del Mar 10, Newport Harbor 8--David Bain won, 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, for host Corona del Mar (10-2, 6-0).

In Century League tennis:

Foothill 10, Canyon 8--Phillip Chen and Jeff Fishel (6-3, 6-3, 7-5) and Jason Stern and Khan Luong (6-3, 6-3, 6-1) swept in doubles for visiting Foothill (7-5, 3-0).

In Olympic League girls’ track:

Orange Lutheran 87, Ontario Christian 16--Brandy Yates won the 100-yard dash in 14.5 seconds and broke the school record by jumping 33 feet 1 inch in the triple jump and Cara Stephens won the shotput (29-0) and the discus (108-10) for Orange Lutheran (4-1, 2-1).
