In the weekend after the Final Four and before the start of baseball’s regular season, golf, horse racing and boxing assume the forefront of the sports television viewing choices.

Just as college basketball crowned a first-time champion Monday, so may well be the case at the Masters. With many of the name players falling off the pace, a changing of the guard may occur by Sunday’s 18th hole. Channels 2 and 8 will have coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Sunday.

For the past two years, the road to the Kentucky Derby has passed through Arcadia, with the Santa Anita Derby winner going on to capture the Kentucky Derby. The trend could continue this year with Mister Frisky entered in today’s race. Mister Frisky is undefated in 15 starts. The Santa Anita Derby will be shown on a delayed basis on “Wide World of Sports” at 4:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3 and 42 and at 3:30 p.m. on Channel 10.

To fill the gap left by the loss of baseball to CBS, NBC debuts a new anthology series today, the “Saturday Sports Showcase.” The first event has the colorful and controversial Jorge Paez defending his International Boxing Federation Featherweight Championship against Louie Espinoza at 1 p.m. on Channels 4, 36, 39.
