ORANGE : Child-Care Services Listed in Free Guide

Share

The first guide to child-care services in Orange, compiled by the local branch of the American Assn. of University Women, has arrived ahead of schedule and is available free to the public at two locations.

“Directory of Child Services,” a 40-page pamphlet listing local child care centers, is available at City Community Services at 326 E. Almond Ave. or in the children’s department of the Orange Central Library.

The guide lists more than 50 state-licensed facilities within the Orange Unified School District.

Services range from after-school recreation programs to infant care. Facts on tuition, operating hours, program goals, age range and registration fees accompany the location and phone number of each listing.

The directory does not cover sites for in-home day care but includes a list of resources and referral numbers for groups dealing with special needs.

The guide fills a great need for Orange families with working parents, said Councilwoman Joanne Coontz, a 12-year member of AAUW who led the directory project.

Two thousand copies of the directory were funded by the Orangewood Children’s Foundation and printed free by the Orange Independent.

Carleen Garza, program manager of child-care services for the Children’s Home Society of California, said guides to day care and other children’s services are also available for Garden Grove, Fullerton, Anaheim, Irvine, Brea, Costa Mesa, San Clemente and La Habra. Parents should contact the Department of Social Services for more information.
