COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Moorpark Extends Home Streak to 46 Wins

Pinch-runner Kristen Mealiffe scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday to give the Moorpark College softball team a 1-0 victory over Canyons, stretching the Raiders’ Western State Conference home winning streak to 46 games.

Moorpark freshman right-hander Robin Thomas (16-3) and Canyons sophomore right-hander Michelle Ruffner both pitched four-hit complete games.

Denise White opened the 10th for Moorpark (17-5, 9-0) with a single to right and advanced on an error to second base, where she was replaced by Mealiffe.

Mealiffe advanced to third on Rustie Stevens’ sacrifice and scored on Chris Singer’s sacrifice fly.

Canyons is 12-9, 3-5.

In another softball game:

CS Northridge 2, Humboldt State 0--Debbie Dickmann limited Humboldt State to three hits in a first-round game of the Cal State Hayward Pioneer Classic in Fremont’s Central Park.

Dickmann improved to 12-6.

BASEBALL

Mission 14, Barstow 2--After scoring seven runs in the final inning Thursday against East Los Angeles, Mission scored nine runs in the first inning against Barstow in a Southern California Athletic Conference game, giving the Free Spirit 16 runs in consecutive innings.

Mission (19-9-1, 11-4) led, 14-1, after four innings, and Jose Garcia (4-1) threw a four-hitter. Robert Chavez led Mission with three hits and four runs batted in.

Biola 6, The Master’s 3--The Master’s, one of the hottest teams in the NAIA District 3, ran into an even hotter pitcher. Biola’s Jeff Carter struck out four, walked one and scattered 10 hits over nine innings.

Reliever John March (1-5) took the loss for Master’s (17-15, 7-7).
