Klein Resigns Position as SDSU Golf Director

John Klein resigned Tuesday as director of golf at San Diego State University, Athletic Director Fred Miller said.

Klein, who had been women’s coach since the 1982-83 season and was named director of golf in 1986, has taken a position as the head professional at the Lake Wildwood Country Club in Penn Valley, Calif.

Wendy Modic, a former SDSU golfer, will be interim coach for the California Collegiate Tournament May 6-8 at Singing Hills. It is the last tournament of the season for the SDSU women.

“This is a professional advancement that is a dream come true for me,” Klein said in a release. “San Diego State’s been great to me. I’m leaving on a happy note. My wife, Kathy, has 16 years of retail merchandising experience and will be running the pro shop at Wildwood. This was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.”

Miller said plans to replace Klein would be considered later.
