HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Condos Hits First 2 Homers of Year to Spark Granada Hills

Granada Hills High shortstop Jon Condos hit two home runs--including a game-icing grand slam in the sixth inning--and had six runs batted in Thursday to lead the Highlanders to an 8-2 North Valley League baseball win over Kennedy at home.

Right-hander Gabe Miller (2-2) went the distance, scattering three hits and striking out three to earn the win for Granada Hills (6-13-2, 3-5-2 in league play).

The Highlanders took a 3-0 lead in the second on a throwing error by Kennedy starter Cody Beaumaster and Condos’ two-run home run.

Kennedy (13-8, 8-5) pulled to within one, 3-2, with two out in the fifth. Troy Bourne singled and scored on Garret Anderson’s home run.

Gabe Padilla scored on a throwing error to give Granada Hills a 4-2 advantage in the sixth. Beaumaster walked Alex Villa to load the bases and Condos blasted his second home run of the season to left field.

Beaumaster (4-3) pitched his seventh complete game, striking out six and surrendering four hits and five walks.

In other baseball games:

San Fernando 9, Cleveland 1--San Fernando led, 2-1, before scoring seven seventh-inning runs on four hits, two errors and a walk. Jess Ceniceros and Art Tarin each had two hits for San Fernando (14-4-2, 9-3-1) in a North Valley League game.

Taft 4, Canoga Park 2--Brett Reisner’s single drove in the tying run and John Erganian’s fielder’s choice drove in the go-ahead run to cap a three-run Taft rally in the seventh inning of the West Valley League game. Dan Baker was three for four and Mike Bruce hit two doubles for Canoga Park (1-13, 1-11). Taft improved to 10-10-1, 6-6-1.

Poly 4, North Hollywood 1--Rodrigo Dorame’s two-run single in the first inning helped the Parrots clinch a share of the East Valley League title at Poly.

Starter Eddie Castellanos improved to 10-0, striking out three and yielding five hits.

Francisco Flores went two for three for Poly (18-3, 13-0).

Sylmar 9, Monroe 6--Roberto Garcia had two hits and London Woodfin hit a solo home run for host Sylmar (14-6, 8-4) in an East Valley League game.

Pasadena 4, Glendale 2--Marco Rivas and Brent Overfeld had Glendale’s only hits in a Pacific League game at home.

SOFTBALL

Thousand Oaks 5, Channel Islands 0--Alicia Zinner threw a no-hitter against the Raiders for the second time this season, allowing only one runner to reach base (on a first-inning error), to lead the Lancers (17-6, 6-4) in a Marmonte League game. Zinner (17-5), who struck out 10, also limited Channel Islands (1-17, 0-9) to one baserunner earlier this season.

Phronsie Franco was two for three with a double and Lindy Donnelly had two hits and two RBIs for Thousand Oaks. Donnelly, a right fielder, preserved the no-hitter by throwing out two batters at first base.

Hoover 3, Arcadia 0--Freshman Nancy Evans threw her fourth no-hitter and struck out 17 to lead host Hoover (14-4, 3-3) in a Pacific League game.

Notre Dame 3, Bell-Jeff 0--Kim Fischer, who was three for four, drove in all of the Knights’ runs in a San Fernando Valley League game at Olive Park in Burbank.

Becca Berline struck out 11 for Notre Dame (11-5, 4-0).

Hart 3, Burbank 0--Kym Weil (17-1) pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts while logging her ninth shutout as first-place Hart (18-2) rolled to a Foothill League win.

Newbury Park 6, Simi Valley 1--Cami Ferris was four for four and Lea Lopez (12-5) allowed three hits as Newbury Park (16-5, 9-1) clinched a tie for the Marmonte League title.
