COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : In other Orange Empire Conference games:
Fullerton 10, Saddleback 3--Tom Kelly (6-3) pitched a five-hitter, struck out seven and walked two to lead Fullerton (21-12, 11-9) at Saddleback (5-16, 11-20). Jim Short had two hits, extending his hitting streak to 15 games, and Jeff Manship hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and a solo home run in the eighth.
Golden West 9, Riverside 6--Golden West took the lead in eighth on a two-run single by Steve McKowen. Gerad Cawhorn, Eric Crocker and McKowen each had three hits.
In the South Coast Conference men’s and women’s swimming championships:
Golden West’s Chris Clarke set a conference record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.83 seconds. Lisa Hadfield, also of Golden West, set a conference record in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.28 at Golden West.
In Orange Empire Conference swimming and diving championships:
The Orange Coast women won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:10.95 seconds to set a conference record. Orange Coast broke its record of 4:13.11 in 1988.
