THOUSAND OAKS : Baby Born After Traffic Accident

Share

Less than three hours after Marco Rosete was killed in a traffic accident, life began for his baby daughter.

The 7-pound, 12-ounce girl was born by Caesarean section on Sunday at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. Her mother, Maria De La Luz Vasquez, was taken there after the 1972 Ford van in which she was riding lost a wheel and went off the northbound Ventura Freeway at Rancho Road. Rosete, 21, who was driving, died at the scene, a coroner’s spokesman said.

Vasquez, 24, was in serious condition Monday in the intensive care unit, but the baby was in good condition, a hospital spokesman said. Two other men in the van escaped with minor injuries. All of the van’s occupants were from Santa Barbara, investigators said.

Also injured in the accident was a Santa Paula woman who was “in the wrong place at the wrong time,” the coroner’s spokesman said. The woman, Amadita Ramirez, 43, was picking up litter along the on-ramp as part of a county work-release program for minor offenders when the van struck her. She was in serious condition at the hospital.
