PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Conway’s 2-Run Triple Gives Mater Dei Comeback Victory

Tracy Conway’s two-run triple in the fifth inning gave top-ranked Mater Dei High School a 3-1 victory over visiting Bishop Montgomery in an Angelus League softball game Thursday.

Conway’s triple gave Mater Dei (19-2 and 8-0 in league) a 2-1 lead. Tina Fuata hit an RBI double in the sixth inning for Mater Dei. Freshman Jennifer Clark (13-0) pitched a five-hitter and had nine strikeouts and one walk for the victory.

In the Arrowhead League:

Calvary Chapel 13, Southern California Christian 12--Sandy Farris hit two home runs and had five RBIs to lead Calvary Chapel (6-5, 5-4).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 7, Troy 0--Shannon Akau pitched a two-hitter, struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter and Kari Escobedo went four for four, including two triples, drove in a run and scored two for visiting Buena Park (15-2-1, 7-1).

Sunny Hills 1, Fullerton 0--Sunny Hills (9-12, 5-3) scored on a single by Karen Galvin and consecutive errors that allowed Kelly Ward and Susan Porter to reach base safely with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Galvin scored on Porter’s hit that was bobbled by the shortstop.

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 5, Loara 0--Sharon Skoglund (7-6) pitched a two-hitter, struck out three and walked three and Julie Harris had two hits and scored once for visiting Los Alamitos (16-7, 6-2).

Cypress 2, Esperanza 1--Sara Powers had two hits and scored and Amy Miller hit an RBI double to lead host Cypress (20-6, 6-2). Beth Howard (17-3) pitched a five-hitter and struck out six for Cypress.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 9, Los Amigos 0--Lana Jimenez had a triple and two RBIs and scored twice and Stephanie Hill had two hits and scored to lead host Kennedy (20-2-1, 11-0-1). Michelle Mora had a two-run triple in the sixth inning and Cheryl Longeway tripled in the third inning. Longeway (16-2-1) pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight.

Garden Grove 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Stephanie Smith (23-1) pitched a one-hitter, struck out 16 and walked two and hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to lead host Garden Grove (23-1, 11-0-1).

In the Olympic League:

Valley Christian 4, Santa Margarita 1--Michele Metot had three hits and scored a run for host Santa Margarita (13-2, 10-2).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 5, Magnolia 1--Sig Lo had three hits, a stolen base and a run and Natasha Dumoski (16-7) pitched a three-hitter, struck out nine and walked one to lead host Valencia (16-7, 6-2).
