SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Castonguay Perfect as Simi Valley Beats Channel Islands

Simi Valley High sophomore Michele Castonguay pitched a perfect game Tuesday as the Pioneers (19-8, 9-3 in league play) finished off the Marmonte League regular season with a 9-0 thumping of Channel Islands.

Castonguay (10-3) struck out 12 in firing her eighth shutout and first no-hitter of the season. Taina Tande hit a three-run home run and Kathy Beasley knocked out three hits for Simi Valley, which finished second in the league standings behind Newbury Park.

Channel Islands fell to 0-12.

In other games:

Saugus 2, Quartz Hill 1--Amanda Colvin had a run-scoring double in the sixth and later scored on a single by Carrie Brown as host Saugus (15-10, 7-2) clinched at least a tie for its second consecutive Golden League championship.

Freshman Kerry Coudry (15-10) struck out 10 and walked three while pitching a two-hitter. Coudry also was two for two.

Thousand Oaks 3, Westlake 1--Alicia Zinner struck out 13 to earn a Foothill League victory at Westlake.

In the third inning, Thousand Oaks’ Nikki Ochoa hit a two-run double that made a winner of Zinner (21-7), who threw a three-hitter. Thousand Oaks is 21-8, 7-5.

La Reina 6, Oak Park 2--Carolyn Russo and Valerie Serpico each had two hits for La Reina in the Tri-Valley League game.

Hart 7, Alhambra 0--Hart scored three unearned runs, and Claudia Vasquez had a two-run single in the seventh and scored two runs as Hart (9-0 in league play) won its fourth consecutive Foothill League title. Kym Weil threw a one-hitter, striking out 10.

Burroughs 6, San Gabriel 3--Erika Renteria struck out five in a complete-game victory over visiting San Gabriel in a Foothill League game. Julie Nony had two hits for Burroughs (13-10, 7-2).

Notre Dame 8, Louisville 2--Becca Berline hit a home run, doubled and drove in four runs to pace Notre Dame (16-9, 8-1) to a San Fernando Valley League win at Louisville.
