MEN’S TENNIS

No. 17 USD has been invited to play in the NCAA championships for the second consecutive year. USD (21-5) will face Harvard (21-5) in the first round May 18 at Indian Wells. With a victory, the Toreros would advance to play UCLA the following day.

SOCCER

The San Diego Nomads, defending champions of the Western Soccer League, will play their 1990 home opener against the expansion Salt Lake Sting Saturday (7:30 p.m.) at Southwesten College’s Devore Stadium.

SOFTBALL

Cal Poly Pomona took a doubleheader from host San Diego State, 3-1 and 1-0.

RUNNING

The 24th Palomar Pentathlon will be held Saturday morning at 9:15 at the new UC San Diego rack, rather than at Balboa Stadium as previously announced, because of a conflict with a high school championship meet. The event consists of five running events--the 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters--with approximately 30 minutes between each. The time for each distance is scored against international tables and includes age adjustments. Registration will be handled on site.
