Cal Lutheran Softball Team Bumped From Playoffs, 11-8

Unranked Adams State College pounded two Cal Lutheran pitchers for 14 hits and eliminated the 11th-ranked Regals from the NAIA Bi-District 2 softball playoffs with an 11-8 victory Friday in Alamosa, Colo.

Adams State (30-17) advances to the 16-team national championships at the University of Western Florida, May 17-19.

Cal Lutheran (32-12-2) was seeking its third consecutive trip to the national championships. The Regals split two games with Adams State on Thursday, winning, 14-1, before losing a 4-3 decision that necessitated the game Friday.

Kim White was three for four, and DeeAndra Pilkington and Michelle Campos each had two hits for Cal Lutheran, the District 3 champion. Pilkington (17-8), who pitched all three games in the series, allowed six hits and four earned runs in 1 1/3 innings, and reliever Leslie Stevens was touched for eight hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Adams State (Colo.), the surprise winner of the District 7 tournament, erased a 4-0 deficit with three runs in each of the first three innings. Cal Lutheran, which had won 19 of its past 20 games entering postseason play, took advantage of five errors to score eight unearned runs.
