Veteran Alhambra Coach to Retire
Veteran Alhambra High School coach John Patrick will soon retire after a record 42 years of service.
Patrick, 75, joined the high school staff in 1948 as assistant varsity football coach. Later, he worked as varsity baseball coach for 10 years, then for nine years as varsity football coach. Since 1970, he has been coaching students in the special education program.
“He is just great with the kids and has a real commitment to the school and community,” Assistant Principal Tony Ortega said. “We’re sorry to see him go. . . . This is an ending to an era.”
Patrick says he is looking forward to retirement but has no definite plans on how he will spend his free time. “I’ll probably show up at some of the games,” Patrick said.
A retirement dinner party for Patrick is scheduled for June 10. For more information, call (818) 281-7207.
