Man Killed by Train as He Walks on Tracks
An unidentified man died Sunday after he was struck by a train near Sylmar, Los Angeles police said.
The man was walking north along the Southern Pacific Transportation Co. tracks near San Fernando Road and Balboa Boulevard about 1 p.m. when he was hit from behind by the train, Officer Tim Sands said.
Sands said the man was wearing headphones and did not hear the train, which blew its whistle and applied its emergency brake before striking the man and knocking him off the tracks.
The man died at the scene.
