SAN FRANCISCO — A gunman opened fire on departing nightclub patrons as they were entering their cars in Chinatown early today, killing one and wounding six others, including a pregnant woman, police said.
The attacker fled by car, and police said they were looking for at least two suspects. They said some of the victims were getting into one car and the rest in another car nearby.
“All the victims were Asian,” a police spokesman said. “Apparently the shooter was too.”
Sgt. John Fewer said the gunman in both attacks was a man in his mid-20s wearing dark clothes and he appeared to be the same man.
The victims were shot after they apparently left the Purple Onion nightclub at 1:50 a.m. at the edge of Chinatown and near the Financial District and North Beach.
Investigators said the attack may have stemmed from gang rivalry or a dispute over gambling.
