A Normal Heights man was arrested after attempting to shoot a police officer, a San Diego police spokesman said.

Bragg Parker, 29, is being held in County Jail on suspicion of theft, resisting arrest and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police spokesman Bill Robinson said Parker was driving erratically at 6th and Robinson avenues shortly after 5 a.m. Monday when Officer Frank Thornquest stopped him for questioning.

Robinson said Parker grabbed the officer’s handgun, and the two struggled for control of the weapon. The gun was dislodged, and Parker grabbed it and fired at Thornquest, missing him, Robinson said. The bullet reportedly hit a window at a nearby gas station. Parker was seized by Thornquest and backup officers, Robinson said.
