HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PLAYOFFS : Village Christian Scores Early in Rout of Moorpark

The Village Christian High baseball team wasted little time in establishing itself Tuesday at The Master’s College, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings to overwhelm Moorpark, 14-4 in a Southern Section 1-A wild-card game. The Crusaders (15-6) will play at Templeton on Friday in a first-round playoff game.

Village Christian sent 12 men to the plate in the first inning, scoring seven runs on six hits to give starting pitcher Matt Bates (7-0) all the help he would need.

Thor Martin led the attack with three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored.

Beverly Hills 8, Crescenta Valley 7--Beverly Hills scored the winning run with two out in the sixth inning of the Southern Section 5-A Division wild-card game at Beverly Hills. Brendon Cowsill was three for three for Crescenta Valley (12-12) and teammate Josh Canale hit a three-run home run.

L.A. Lutheran 9, Pacific Shores 4--Junior right-hander Trevor Earle (3-3) pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts in a Small Schools’ game at the Tujunga Pony Colt Field.
