SAN DIEGO SPORTS ET CETERA : San Diego Amateur Starts Today
The 58th San Diego Men’s Amateur Golf Championships begin today and continue Sunday at Torrey Pines. Those scoring 160 or better over the first two rounds move on to the third and fourth rounds to be played next weekend at Balboa.
Pat Duncan is trying to win the event for the fourth consecutive year. He will be challenged by Craig Anderson, who qualified for the recent Shearson Lehman Hutton Open, Bob Imlay and Jim Renner.
SAILING
Long Beach Yacht Club’s Camouflage, skippered by Alvin Schultz, was winner of the first race of the San Diego Yacht Club’s Lipton Cup.
Camouflage won with a corrected time of 2 hours 44 minutes 54 seconds. Quintessence, skippered by Donald Hughes, was second in 2:48:09. The top SDYC finisher was Cadenza, skippered by Carl Eichen laub, in fourth.
The event continues today and Sunday.
