Gonzales Defends WBC Title at Forum

Humberto (Chiquita) Gonzales (26-0 and 20 knockouts) of Mexico City fights No. 1 contender Luis (Kid) Monzote (21-7, 7 KOs) of Miami in a World Boxing Council light flyweight title fight at the Forum Monday.

Gonzales, who will be making his third title defense, won the title on a unanimous decision over South Korea’s Yulwoo Lee on June 25, 1989. Monzote, who has won eight consecutive fights, is a southpaw.

The 12th annual Oscar Johnson Tennis Classic will be held June 23-24 and June 30-July 1 at USC’s Marks Tennis Stadium, Trade Tech and Harvard Park. Entry deadline is June 11, with competition in men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Information: Don Bly at (213) 299-7483 after 6 p.m.
