SAN YSIDRO — The bodies of two apparent shooting victims were found Wednesday in an area near the U.S.-Mexico border that has been the site of numerous robberies and slayings, authorities said.
San Diego Police Lt. John P. Gregory said Border Patrol agents found the bodies of two male Latinos near an abandoned gravel pit. Gregory said the two unidentified victims were about 100 yards apart and that one of them appeared to have attempted to escape the gunfire. Investigators found several shell casings, indicating a semiautomatic weapon or weapons may have been used.
The discovery of the bodies came only hours after a young man was shot in the back during a clash between two groups on a nearby road.
