ANAHEIM : Hearings to Be Held on Proposed Budget

Share

The City Council will hold the first of two hearings today to get comments from city department officials and the public about next year’s proposed budget.

The Police Department, Community Development Department and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department are among those scheduled to be heard. Today’s hearing will begin at 2 p.m. in the council chambers.

The budget, expected to exceed $500 million, is for the fiscal year that starts July 1.

At a regular meeting this evening, the council will vote on whether to extend or amend the current moratorium on building in the Disneyland area.

The current 45-day ban in the zone was approved May 1 and will expire Thursday. The freeze can be extended for up to 22 months.

City planners have presented council members with four options, all of which would extend the moratorium for 90 days and exempt various proposed projects in the area from the ban. Planners have recommended the most lenient of those options, which excludes about a dozen planned developments that have been stalled because of the moratorium from the renewed ban.

Planners say the additional 90 days will allow them time to complete a yearlong study of the area and enact its findings.
