READY, AIM: The latest outbreak of freeway gunfire (B5) is only part of a growing pattern of freeway violence, says UC Irvine psychologist Raymond W. Novaco, who’s been studying the phenomenon for years. . . . Shootings occur irregularly, but other violence--ramming vehicles, throwing objects, fights and threats--have been steadily increasing since 1987. . . . This year through May 15, the CHP logged 228 incidents in Orange County alone, up an astounding 245% from last year.
