THE SIDELINES : U.S. Biker in 3rd in Swiss Race

SAN BERNARDINO, Switzerland —
American Andrew Hampsten won the sixth stage of the Tour of Switzerland cycling race today. Hampsten, who won the race in 1986 and 1987, beat Britain’s Robert Millar on the uphill finish.
With four more stages left in the 1,850-kilometer race, Hampsten moved into third place in the overall standings, trailing Ireland’s Sean Kelly and Millar. Kelly leads Millar by 41 seconds and Hampsten by 1 minute and 4 seconds.
