COUNTYWIDE : Ex-Employee Sues Disneyland in Firing

Share

A longtime Disneyland employee filed suit Thursday alleging that he was fired from his job because of a physical handicap and an AIDS-related condition.

Nelson Campbell, a Long Beach man who is representing himself in the suit, claimed that he was terminated in October, 1989, after 18 years of employment because “of his medical condition and handicap.” The suit claimed that the termination was in violation of California law.

The suit, filed against Disneyland, the Walt Disney Co. and three employees of the company, asked for unspecified damages.

Campbell claimed in his suit that he was denied equal terms and conditions of employment “because of a medical diagnosis of AIDS-related condition.”

Disneyland spokesman Bob Roth said that as a matter of policy the company does not comment on personnel matters.

Campbell stated in his lawsuit that his duties at Disneyland included working as an assistant stage manager for some park events and as a media coordinator.

Campbell was not available for comment Thursday.
