SOUTHLAND : Norwalk Gang Shooting Kills 1
Three young men believed to be gang members fired their guns over a fence into a back yard high school graduation party in Norwalk early today, killing one boy and wounding nine others.
Jesus E. Diaz, 16, of Artesia was killed in the 1:10 a.m. shooting, Sheriff’s Deputy John Ashley said. The nine wounded were taken to area hospitals.
“Three male Hispanics entered an adjacent yard and fired at the victims over a back wall,” Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Linnemeyer said.
They used a shotgun and possibly some handguns to shoot into the crowd of at least 100 guests, Ashley said.
The wounded were all males aged 19 and 20. Four of them were treated at Pioneer Hospital and released. A fifth was transferred to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
George Hershey, principal at Tracy High School in Cerritos, said a Tracy student hosted the party to celebrate his graduation Thursday evening. It was not immediately known how many Tracy students were among the guests.
